21 Lucifers: Hope fades
23/08/04 || Lord K Philipson
You all know that I have been raving about a Swedish magazine called Metal Wire (R.I.P), right? This magazine ruled the scene in Sweden at the time (it was laid to rest this year, to everyones’ regrets). It also had a guy reviewing stuff who literally made me cry out of laughter while reading his stuff. What does this have to do with anything? The guys’ name is Lindh. If you take a look at the members of this band, you’ll see there’s a Lindh playing guitar, right? That’s right, it’s the same guy.
And?
Nothing really, I just had no idea he could actually play an instrument. I also had no idea he was good enough to be in a band. And more-so, I never expected him to send me a demo with him on it. Atleast not one that sounds this good. I thought he was too fucked up to actually being able to do anything else but to take a good piss at people and make me cry as a baby while doing it.
I was fucken wrong.
Now when that’s off my hairy chest, let’s give them mad props for their bandname, which is excellent. Adding “21” (Peter Forsberg people, Peter Forsberg…) to a bandname is a wise move if I’m going to review it, and if you want me to like it. That’s right, I judge bands by their names, not the music. And your momma is fucken fat. I love the name, just wanted you to know that. I recently came across some review of this piece and the guy who wrote it must be a crackhead as he described them as “thrash metal”.
I. Don’t. Fucken. Think. So.
We are talking grindy death metal here. And it’s real fucken good. Lemme state that again; real fucken good. Absolutely nothing like I expected, and I’m not even sure I know what I expected, I just know it wasn’t this.
Mooseshit. You all smell like mooseshit.
The Lucifers’ definitely found a sound that appeals to me. By incorporating some neat Slayerish-riffing in-between the blastbeats, some fast doublebass, a few samples, the ocassional backing-growls and some Nasum-like vocals (though not as high as Mieszkos’, I’m just giving you an idea of their sound here, shut the fuck up) they manage to avoid having the Lord go ballistic on their devilish asses. There’s a few solos thrown in here and there, and they all sound fine to me. I’m betting my anus on that it’s not Lindh playing those though, he just can’t be that good a writer AND a guitarist.
Duh.
If you want something blasting, I recommend this. Strongly. Do as I tell you and order this CD for a mere 30 sek (4$) including postage and packing from: twentyonelucifers@hotmail.com.
7 and a half fucken Peter Forsberg-jerseys’ out of 21. I mean 10.
